Budapest Airport – Major Infrastructure Project

August 28, 2026

Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc Airport is preparing one of its most extensive infrastructure projects in recent years.

To provide optimal operating conditions for even the most modern and heaviest wide-body aircraft, the operator, Budapest Airport Zrt., has launched a comprehensive tender for more than 70,000 square meters of new airside traffic areas.

The construction work will focus on modifications around runway threshold THR 31L and taxiways A1, A2, C and D. The construction program also includes approximately 44,640 square meters of new heavy-duty pavement, of which 20,234 square meters will be constructed using highly durable basalt concrete.

The project will also include replacing conventional drainage channels with modern grating systems, as well as concrete repairs. With the expansion, the Hungarian aviation hub aims to sustainably strengthen its competitiveness in the international long-haul market.
