Swiss energy company Alpiq, through its subsidiary Alpiq Magyarország Kft., has commissioned a new, state-of-the-art hybrid power plant in the Csepel district of Budapest.
Alpiq Magyarország invested HUF 23 billion (EUR 63 million) in the hybrid gas engine technology. The new unit provides an electrical output of 50 megawatts (MW), increasing the total capacity at the Csepel site to 450 MW.
The facility can feed its full output into the electricity grid in less than five minutes. This enables it to balance weather-related fluctuations in renewable energy generation, particularly from solar and wind power, and helps ensure grid stability.
