The Stuttgart-based automotive group officially inaugurated the extensive expansion of its plant in Kecskemét in mid-July.
With a total investment of EUR 1 billion, the site has become not only Mercedes-Benz’s second-largest manufacturing facility worldwide, but also, at 440 hectares, the largest Mercedes-Benz plant in Europe.
The facility will now produce the fully electric version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Currently, around 5,000 employees manufacture more than 100,000 vehicles annually at the site. In the long term, the company plans to increase the plant’s production capacity to up to 350,000 vehicles per year. As part of this expansion, Mercedes-Benz also intends to nearly double its workforce to 9,000–10,000 employees.
