In a few weeks, Stadler Trains Magyarország Zrt. will deliver the first new FLIRT InterCity train for the fleet of Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút (GYSEV) Zrt. (Raaberbahn).
The fleet of 11 trains is expected to be fully in service by summer 2028.
In 2024, GYSEV signed a contract with the rolling stock manufacturer Stadler, headquartered in Bussnang (Switzerland), for the procurement of additional intercity electric multiple units. Between 2013 and 2018, the railway company had already acquired twenty FLIRT trains from Stadler’s most successful product portfolio in three procurement rounds.
The car bodies of the modern five-car trains are manufactured at Stadler’s plant in Szolnok. The railway company plans to put the trains into service from 2027 on the Sopron–Budapest and Szombathely–Budapest routes. The trains will be able to operate not only in Hungary but also in Austria.
Stadler Trains Magyarország Zrt. began operating in Hungary 20 years ago and has since invested more than EUR 200 million in the country. In 2007, the company opened its maintenance center in Pusztaszabolcs, which was the Stadler Group’s first service base and today serves as a reference for its roughly 100 locations in 25 countries.
