Nestlé to close plant in Diósgyőr

July 24, 2026

Nestlé Hungária Kft. will close its plant in Diósgyőr at the end of the year. The reason for the closure is declining demand for seasonal confectionery products, such as the hollow chocolate figures manufactured exclusively at this facility.

The factory currently contributes less than 3% to the revenue of Nestlé Hungária Kft. and accounts for only 0.4% of Hungary’s total production volume. In parallel with the production shutdown, Nestlé has already begun negotiations on the sale of the plant. The aim is to preserve as many jobs as possible through an investor who would continue confectionery production at the site.

In the future, the chocolate figures will be produced by an independent partner in compliance with Nestlé’s quality standards.

The company’s other Hungarian sites in Szerencs and Bük, however, continue to experience dynamic growth and will remain in operation.
