The Austrian company Swietelsky is modernizing the 13.6 km section between Almásfüzitő and Komárom on the Budapest–Győr–Vienna main railway line for HUF 36.3 billion (EUR 10 million).
The tender was launched as part of the Baross modernization plan, with the aim of upgrading the entire line for maximum speeds of 160 km/h, expected to be achieved by 2030. The construction company submitted the lowest bid. The project is being financed from the EU Cohesion Funds.
To enable higher travel speeds, parts of the existing railway line will have to be rerouted. In addition, the level crossing on Main Road 1 will be replaced by a grade-separated overpass.
