More new homes completed

August 07, 2026

In the first half of 2026, the number of newly built homes completed increased by 22% compared with the same period last year. The number of building permits issued also rose by 29%.

According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), 6,280 homes were completed, with more than one-third located in the capital. A total of 830 homes were added in Budapest’s 10th district, 475 in the 13th district, and nearly 280 each in the 1st and 11th districts.

In the county seats, the number of completed homes increased by nearly one-third compared with 2025. The number of building permits rose to almost 16,600. Larger residential construction projects are getting underway in the county seats of Kecskemét (580 units), Nyíregyháza (500) and Debrecen (350 units).

In Budapest, growth of 9.5% indicates that the momentum is noticeably slowing, albeit from a high level. Developers are nevertheless planning to complete a further 2,560 homes in the 9th district and 2,360 in the 13th district.
