Swedish defence group Saab has inaugurated an Aviation Development Centre in Budapest. The initial workforce of 25 is expected to be expanded significantly in the near future.
Saab financed the investment entirely from its own funds, without any Hungarian government support. However, the investment costs have not been disclosed.
The centre will focus on research and technological development related to the Gripen fighter aircraft system. This will enable Hungarian engineers to participate directly in advanced aerospace and defence development projects. One key area of activity will be the application of XR technologies to the maintenance of the Gripen fleet and the training of the technical personnel required for this purpose.
