Hungary’s telecommunications sector generated revenues of approximately HUF 340 billion (EUR 960.4 million) in the first quarter of 2026. According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), six out of every ten forints in industry revenues now originate from mobile and internet services.
Mobile phone calls remain significantly shorter than fixed-line conversations, averaging 3.7 minutes compared with 6.2 minutes on landlines. Nevertheless, 97% of all calls are now initiated through mobile networks.
In the television segment, analogue technology has been completely replaced by digital services. As of March, the number of active television service subscriptions declined to 3.4 million, representing a further 2% year-on-year decrease. Demand for fixed broadband services is increasingly being met through optical fiber networks, which expanded by 6% year-on-year. In the mobile segment (+4%), machine-to-machine (M2M) SIM cards are becoming more widespread, enabling automated data exchange between devices. Mobile data traffic increased by 20% compared to the previous year, reaching an average of 41 GB per internet customer during the first quarter.
