The largest battery energy storage system in Central Europe has been commissioned in Buj, north of Nyíregyháza (Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County).

The facility, with a total installed capacity of 99.8 MW and an energy storage capacity of 288.5 MWh, was developed by Forest-Vill Zrt. on behalf of the Portuguese Greenvolt Power Group. The system consists of two independent energy storage units equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by the Chinese manufacturer BYD.

The project companies each received HUF 5.6 billion (approximately EUR 15 million) in EU funding.
