At the end of September 2026, Swiss food group Nestlé officially completed a series of investments at its Purina plant in Bük, western Hungary, as part of a five-year investment programme launched in 2020. The investments have resulted in Europe’s largest Purina pet food factory. The local workforce has grown by more than 600 new positions, bringing the total to 1,800 employees.
Nestlé Hungária Kft. implemented the major project, with a total investment of EUR 140 million, entirely from its own funds. Since acquiring the pet food plant in 1998, Nestlé has invested a total of HUF 325 billion (equivalent to just under EUR 900 million at today’s prices) at the Bük site.
Nestlé Hungária Kft. employs more than 3,000 people in Hungary across several locations and at its Budapest headquarters.
